Animal identification equipment helps veterinarians properly identify pet patients. They help in improving medical care by accurately identifying a patient's medical history, treatment protocols, vaccination status, and medications. In addition, identification tags and microchips increase the chances of a lost pet being found.
The early methods of animal identification used hot iron for imprinting burning marks on animals. Other traditional methods used for this purpose were cropping, notching, and crude tattooing.
However, in the 18th and 19th centuries, ear tags and tattoo machines replaced these painful identification methods. Soon, in the 20th century, rabies tags came into being.
